Matt Smith, PE

Matt Smith, PE, is an Area Manager with Triad Engineering, Inc., bringing more than 35 years of experience in civil engineering and a diverse background in land development, infrastructure, utility, and transportation projects. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in 14 states. Following the 2009 economic downturn, Matt founded his own civil engineering firm, which grew to 25 employees by 2016. In late 2025, as part of his planned exit strategy and in support of Triad’s strategic growth plan for western Pennsylvania, Matt integrated the Monroeville, Pennsylvania-based firm and its employees into Triad and assumed the role of Area Manager.
In his current role, Matt supports Triad’s growth initiatives through client development, participation in economic development and advocacy committees, formation of teaming arrangements, proposal preparation, and contract procurement. His technical responsibilities include project vision and planning, collaborative input on civil engineering design, quality assurance and quality control, and project representation at public approval forums.
Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and three adult children, as well as golf, skiing, and visiting the beach. As a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Matt also serves as the Immediate Past Commandant of his Marine Corps League Post 797.
