Deep Creek Fire Hall Expansion

Located on the east shore of the north end of Deep Creek Lake, the Deep Creek Fire Department had a steel building addition constructed in 2014. Although the structure was designed for a future second floor mezzanine, during the development of the plan for this addition, it was determined that some of the foundations would exceed the previous design pressure. Based on recollection from the building contractor in 2014, the foundations were founded on better material than originally anticipated. As a result, the design team requested additional exploration and foundation evaluation for the new loads.

Triad performed two additional borings as close as possible to the areas in question. One of these borings was drilled inside of the building. Based on the results of the borings and laboratory testing performed, Triad engineers were able to re-evaluate the foundation bearing and settlement estimates and provide a bearing capacity necessary for construction of the mezzanine. Careful precautions were necessary to allow safe operation of our drill rig within the building. In addition, a thorough understanding of the loading and foundation dimensions was essential in performing our analysis.

Drilling within a building presents a unique challenge, but Triad successfully navigated this obstacle to deliver the project.
