    Front Royal Fish Hatchery

The Front Royal Fish Hatchery restoration project is nestled in the Massanutten Mountain / Passage Creek valley adjacent to the George Washington National Forest. It is contained within the South River and South Fork Shenandoah River watersheds. Triad Engineering provided detailed topographic base mapping, identification and inventory of existing infrastructure, and geotechnical engineering services in support of this project.

    Challenges and Solutions

This stretch of Passage Creek is stocked with trout by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. It is considered a “Category A” fly fishing area. Triad Engineering carefully planned and deployed modern technologies, including remote sensing and robotic instrumentation to achieve the project objectives while minimizing their intrusion into this environmentally sensitive watershed and important recreational area. The survey field and geotechnical science data collected was compiled into a set of digital files, including AutoCAD Civil 3D formatted files which captured the project’s existing conditions for use in both the present and the future.
