WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY

About WVU

West Virginia University was founded in Morgantown, West Virginia as a land-grant institution in 1867, just four years after WV was granted its statehood and two years after the end of the Civil War.  First called the Agricultural College of West Virginia, the school’s name was changed permanently to West Virginia University (WVU) in 1868.

Today, WVU educates more than 35,000 undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate professional students annually at its campuses around the state.  Students come from all 55 WV counties, nearly all 50 U.S. states (plus territories), and more than 100 foreign nations to be educated by the nationally-recognized institution.  More than 10,000 local residents are employed directly by the University, with thousands more employed by the businesses, medical facilities and public offices that support the school and its students.  It is this constant growth that has led Morgantown to be named “No. 1 Small City in America” by BizJournals.com, 5th “Best Small Metro” by Forbes, 12th overall “Hottest Small City” by Inc., and one of “50 Smartest Places to Live” by Kiplinger’s in recent years.  During the recent economic downturn, Morgantown earned additional praise and was labeled an “oasis” within our turbulent nation, boasting low unemployment, continued growth and ongoing development – primarily attributed to the strength of the University community.

Since 1867, the city of Morgantown has grown as a result of the strength of WVU.  Triad Engineering has also followed this model since opening its doors in 1975.  Founded by three WVU engineers, Triad has served as a trusted consultant for thousands of University projects over the years, accounting for millions of dollars in firm revenues.  We currently hold ongoing agreements to provide geotechnical, drilling, surveying, and inspection and testing services on behalf of the University, and remain a top partner sought out by larger architectural and construction firms to provide civil site design and other services for more complex development projects.  With our unique area knowledge, strong relationships with University representatives, and a proven track record of quality service, it is safe to say Triad and WVU will be working together for many more years to come.
